Lily Among Thorns is a Christian end-times story from Annette K. Mazzone that extrapolates the current conditions Christians are facing right now and draws it out to its logical conclusion.
As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.
– Song of Solomon 2:2
Lily Among Thorns
From Annette K. Mazzone, the 20th century was a lesson on how abject evil could easily be unleashed and loosed upon the world. The two World Wars were a reminder of what happens when a tyrant, a dictator, or a fascist takes the reins of a nation and drags it into horror.
Yet, the worst is yet to come.
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
– John 17:12
In Lily Among Thorns, a Christian end-times story, the consequences of humanity’s forgetfulness and obstinacy are shown in full force.
Throughout the narrative, we follow a young woman who is still in her mid-twenties, someone who has her whole life ahead of her, yet she is branded a criminal and a pariah.
And for what reason?
Her love for the Lord and her firm belief that the Bible is as it is written.
What happens when God-fearing and Christ-loving Christians become the public enemy under a New Oppressive World Order?
Our protagonist is merely one among many, but despite the grave loss of family and love, they will persevere. But what is the actual situation now?
Living as a Christian Right Now
In today’s ever-evolving world, Christianity faces a unique set of challenges. Societal norms are shifting, and diverse perspectives are beginning to emerge. Christians now must have to navigate a landscape where their beliefs are increasingly scrutinized and questioned. While this is a daunting task, it’s important to remember that Christianity has weathered storms before and will continue to do so.
A noticeable decline in religious affiliation in recent years can be observed, particularly among younger generations. This trend is often attributed to a growing skepticism and a desire for autonomy in personal beliefs. Additionally, the rise of social media has offered a nasty bulwark against religion, further contributing to a decline in traditional religious adherence.
This shift in the religious landscape presents challenges and opportunities for Christians everywhere. On one hand, it can be disheartening to see a decline in the number of people who identify with the Christian faith. On the other hand, it also presents an opportunity to engage with others in more meaningful dialogue about religion and spirituality.
Unfortunately, Christians in many parts of the world face not only skepticism but also outright persecution and discrimination. In countries with authoritarian regimes, religious freedom is often curtailed, with Christians a prime target of their ire. Even in countries with ostensibly solid protections of religious liberty, Christians are experiencing discrimination in many aspects of life.
Living by the Faith
In the face of this unjustifiable persecution, we Christians should respond with grace and compassion. This does not mean condoning or accepting harmful or unjust behavior. Instead, it means responding with love, understanding, and a willingness to engage in dialogue.
By embodying the principles of our faith in Christ, we can demonstrate the power of love and forgiveness, even in the face of adversity. By following the eternal precepts of the Bible, there is no obstacle that we cannot overcome.
Did we not overcome the Romans, the Crusades, the Black Death, and more? So, there is no reason that we cannot overcome the troubles coming our way this time.
As Christians navigate the challenges of a changing world, we must find strength and support in our fellows. Creating communities of faith provides a space for fellowship, encouragement, and mutual support. They also offer opportunities for us to grow and learn to apply our beliefs to the myriad challenges we are facing.
Despite the challenges that Christians face today, there is reason for hope. Christianity has a long and rich history of overcoming adversity and continues to inspire and guide millions of people worldwide.
As Christians move forward, they can confidently do so, knowing their faith is a source of strength, hope, and love. They can continue to live out their beliefs with grace and compassion, positively impacting the world around them.
